About The African American Democratic Club.History of the African American Democratic ClubThe African American Democratic Club of Montgomery County was formed out of a desire to increase minority participation in Montgomery County public affairs in Montgomery County. Founded by a group of African American professionals seeking to increase black voter participation and educate elected officials on issues of importance to African American citizens in the county, the club is a consistent voice advocating on behalf of African Americans in Montgomery County. Since its formation in 2000, the number of African American candidates seeking and securing elected and appointed offices in Montgomery County has steadily increased. Some successes include Montgomery County Central Committee Chairwoman Karen Britto, County Council Member Valerie Ervin, Democratic Central Committee Officers Tracy Terrell, Venattia Vann, Vivian Malloy and County Executive Isaiah Leggett, who is one of the club’s founders. Montgomery County currently has three African Americans serving in the General Assembly; Delegates Alfred Carr, Craig Rice and Herman Taylor. On the Montgomery County Board of Education, Christopher S. Barclay and Judy Docca, at present, are the only African Americans serving on the Montgomery County Board of Education. Membership is open to all registered Democrats who live or work in Montgomery County. The African American Democratic Club of Montgomery County is an IRS-approved, 501 (c) 4, not-for-profit organization. Vision StatementThe vision of the African American Democratic Club (AADC) is to increase the participation and representation of African Americans in the Democratic Party and the political process. The AADC seeks to promote and champion social and economic opportunities for African Americans in Montgomery County, Maryland, through civic participation, social action, business mobilization and political involvement.
